The Boys Basketball League of Rice Lake was founded in 1969 as a one division program involving boy grade 5-7. The following year the grade structure was adjusted to grades 6-8, and for the 1971-72 season a "B" Bracket for grades 3-5 was added.
The 1980-81 league witnessed a slight restructuring with the "A" Bracket accommodating grades 7-8, the "B" bracket grades 5-6 and a "C" Bracket for 3-4 grades initiated.
The instructional program "D" Bracket for kindergarten through 2 made its debut with the 1982-83 season, and in 2003 was subdivided into separate programs - one for grade 2 and another for a combination of grade 1 and kindergartner.
The Traveling team program, which is open to all league players grades 5 - 8, came on the scene with the arrival of the 1979-80 campaign.
While the Boys Basketball League receives much essential assistance from the City of Rice Lake Recreation Department and the area School District, the league is a private association incorporated with the state of Wisconsin. It is not, as it is often erroneously referred, "The City League"
